BP should restore the Gulf to pristine condition

For over 30 years, the annual Rainbow Gathering has constructed a city in pristine wilderness for up to 30,000 to occupy.  The city is constructed using fallen timber lashed together, rocks and mud, all found right at the site.  By the end of the Gathering, new roads, footpaths, pit toilets, and trash are to be found everywhere.  For the next month, a team of dedicated volunteers comb the area and carefully pick up every candy wrapper and cigarette butt until no trash can be found.  Teams of naturalists loosen the soil along all newly trodden areas and painstakingly transplant the same natural flora that can be found in the untouched areas.  By 3 years later, it is impossible to have known that there was a city of 30,000 people on that spot.  The pristine condition of each wilderness area is meticulously restored. 

I would like to see BP, Exxon, and other oil drilling companies held to the same standard as the Rainbow Family of Living Light.  First of all, the government that issues the drilling licenses must keep a bond for each oil well equal to the estimated cost of cleaning up a spill.  In the case of a 5ft pipe tapping into a well the size of the Gulf of Mexico, that bond would be several hundred billion dollars. 

Next, BP will need to not only remove 98% of the oil from the water, coast, sand, and coral reefs, but also restock the Gulf with all the natural species that were there before they started drilling.  That would necessitate a complete study of the flora and fauna of the drilling area before a drilling license can be issued.  In the case of the Gulf of Mexico catastrophe, that would mean cleaning all the sand on the floor of the entire Gulf, all the coral reefs, restoring the pH of the water, removing all toxic dispersant chemicals from the water, re-oxygenating the water, and restocking fish and wildlife from manatees to coral to plankton. 

BP has set off a catastrophe that threatens all life on Earth; no amount of money or effort will be able to restore the Gulf of Mexico and the Caribbean Sea back to pristine condition.  Since this process is virtually impossible, then all offshore drilling should be permanently banned. 

Stop wasting time and money on the terrorist game

The "War on Terror" is a manipulative ploy to keep the American electorate terrified enough to justify giving up our civil rights to a creeping fascist invasion. When the Congress led by a Democratic majority falls prey to the fascist manipulations and propaganda, they are no longer serving the people.

3000 people died 6 years ago in one day from terrorists. To retaliate, we have killed countless 10's of thousands in Iraq, displaced millions, destroyed the infrastructure of an entire country, bankrupted the US Treasury, killed 4000 American GI's, countless thousands of mercenaries, and maimed 25,000 GIs. Yet we let the mastermind of that terrorist attack go free when we had him surrounded, and we protected his family members like royalty.

Since 6 years ago, countless 10's of thousands have died every year as a result of global climate change, but we continue to support the petroleum companies and polluting policies that have caused it. If petroleum companies are causing the deaths of so many people and species of wildlife, I would consider them to be homegrown terrorists.

Since 6 years ago, 450,000 Americans have died from alcohol related injuries. I would consider the alcohol companies to be homegrown terrorists.

Since 6 years ago, 500,000 Americans have died from tobacco. I would consider the tobacco companies to be homegrown terrorists.

The morbidity and mortality worldwide from air, water and soil pollution, from the effects of burning fossil fuel, drinking alcohol and smoking tobacco exceed the single act of terrorism on 9/11 by about 500X, yet we fall for the manipulative propaganda of a war on Muslim terrorists in order to justify the invasion and occupation of sovereign nations and the erosion of American civil liberties.

Wake up Congress and start defending the Constitution from the tyranny within our own government. Stop playing the game. Get real and start serving the people. America has some very huge real problems that are being totally ignored while you waste our time and money playing the terrorist game.

Just remember that Luis Posada Carriles, the terrorist that exploded an airplane in mid-air with a toothpaste tube full of C-4, is scott free on the streets of Miami while the rest of the world gets their toothpaste tubes confiscated at the airport.

Impeachment is Constitutional

As I listened to the President's Orwellian double-speak at his State-of-the-Union speech, it became ever more obvious that the only way to stop his brazen acts of terrorism against the Iraqis, the American people, and against the unborn debtors of the future is to IMPEACH!

A "surge" of 20,000 more troops is a drop in the bucket. In order to accomplish the kind of security Bush is referring to, he would have to send in at least 150,000. The troops he had already begun to deploy into Iraq even before he made his speech are nothing more than thumbing his nose in the face of the American electorate and the Democratic majority in Congress. "Just try and stop me!" his words and attitude seemed to say.

Since the "young democracy" he refers to in Iraq is Shia controlled, I believe the 20,000 more troops he plans to deploy with the Iraqi Shia troops will be nothing more than a fascist genocide on Sunnis. Like Hitler, he will credit the coming bloodbath escalation toward protecting the security of America.

Bush referred to "our enemies in Iraq." In fact, there were absolutely NO IRAQIS involved in either attack on the WTC in 1993 or in 2001. It was mainly Pakistanis, Kuwaitis, and Saudis, who are now our strongest allies in the region. So what enemies in Iraq are the President referring to? So why are our troops in Iraq when Iraq never attacked America? The oil magnates that lead our current executive's office make it obvious: O-I-L! It is for oil wealth and oil power that our troops are dying and the wealth of our nation has been squandered. The only way to stop Bush's ruthlessly brazen waste of American resources is to IMPEACH!!!
